Landmark decision! MV City Council votes to spend $100,000 on Watershed Program

... that promises to bolster
flood control and environmental restoration.
The massive 100-year
storm that unleashed torrential downpours during the middle of the
night on Dec. 31, 2005, led to severe flooding in Mill Valley's
Sycamore Triangle neighborhood. City and county officials want to put a
comprehensive program in place to make sure that doesn't happen again,
and in the process, develop a restoration plan for degraded areas
throughout the watershed.
The city is currently waiting on a
detailed study of the Arroyo Corte Madera del Presidio watershed from
Stetson Engineers, a city-hired consulting firm that is producing a map
of the floodplain in order to give planners a better idea of which
flood-proofing fixes might work best and where. Read more...

Members of the county, the city of Mill Valley and the Sycamore Triangle Association strolled down the creek on Sept. 1 to see what could be done t prevent future flooding.
